Council Urging for Pacific Highway Upgrade

Mayor of Gosford City, Councillor Laurie Maher is becoming increasingly concerned with delays to the upgrading of the Pacific Highway, between Narara and Lisarow.

Gosford City Council has been advised that studies to assist in the determination of options are currently being undertaken to establish a preferred route from the intersection of the Pacific Highway and Railway Crescent at Lisarow to Manns Road at Narara.

Councillor Maher says that Council acknowledges that studies are required to produce the best road design to service the community; however these need to be completed as soon as possible and funds allocated for the work.

“The upgrading of this part of the Pacific Highway needs to happen as a matter of urgency as the current situation is causing protracted delays for vehicles and pedestrians from West Gosford right through to Ourimbah.

Council’s main concern is the excessive delays being experienced by local residents and visitors when travelling along the Highway as well as the impacts these delays are having on Central Coast businesses.

“In some cases motorists are being delayed by upwards of half an hour while utilising the Central Coasts major roads during the morning and evening peak times.

“In peak hours the road resembles a car park,” said Clr Maher.

“As a Council we are concerned with any delay in the upgrading of the Highway. In an attempt to get the improvements that are warranted as quickly as possible, we have written to both the NSW Premier and the NSW Opposition Leader, seeking their assurances that they will continue with the urgently needed upgrading works if elected in the upcoming NSW State Government elections,” added Clr Maher.
